To promote Indian Classical Music among the youth, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Mehta Vidyalaya hosted ‘Virasat-2015’ on 8 October, 2015 in the Bulmin Hall. Under the aegis of SPIC MACAY, the sarod concert by renowned maestro Pt Biswajit Roy Chowdhury accompanied by Ustaad Akram Khan on the tabla, aimed at spreading and promoting Indian Culture and its art forms among the youth and to sensitise India's youth to the rich cultural legacy of the country.
The day commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the artistes Pt Biswajit Roy Chowdhury and Ustaad Akram Khan, Shri Ashok Pradhan (Director, BVB), Dr (Smt) Anju Tandon (Principal, BVB), Smt Vibha Kohli (Vice Principal, BVB) and Smt Shashi Bhargava (Headmistress, BVB).
Shri Ashok Pradhan, Director BVB, in his welcome speech extended a warm welcome to all the artistes and stated that their presence to this annual feature –‘Virasat’ has honoured the prestige of Bhavan. He stated that Classical Music is good for the ears as well as the soul and exhorted the students to be proud of Indian Classical Music.
The students of Class X witnessed the scintillating performance by SPIC MACAY exponents Pt Biswajit Roy Chowdhury and Ustaad Akram Khan. The students were indeed fortunate to experience the wonders of Indian Classical Music as Pandit ji began the concert with Raaga Bhairav. At the end of his musical extravagance Pandit ji briefed the students about the difference between Classical Music and Western Music. The lively performance and Demo Lecture question session added value to an enjoyable morning and enriched the morning for our students and staff.
